Final Fantasy XIII

The first Final Fantasy title to be released for the PlayStation 3, Final Fantasy XIII is a sci-fi fantasy RPG, in which players take the role of a party of characters, and use a combination of weapons, equipment and strategies to defeat their enemies.

The story begins in Cocoon, an artificial sphere which hovers above another world - Grand Pulse. Several people - including the main characters - are being purged for having been "contaminated" by coming into contact with Pulse, before they can escape.

Final Fantasy XIII received a wide mix of reviews from excellent to poor, with an average score of 74%. The graphics were praised by almost everyone, but others complained of the linear storyline and lack of exploration, familiar in previous FF games.

For more information, check out our Final Fantasy XIII Review.

Most trophies are quite doable with a fair amount of effort, but Treasure Hunter will require hours and hours and hours of mindless farming.

Completing the story itself will only take up 20% of your time on this game, another 10% to finish the Hunts, and the remaining 70% will be dedicated to battling Adamantortoises and Adamanchelids for Gil, so that you can upgrade all your weapons and all your accessories, in order to obtain this one, single trophy. By using the techniques and guides we linked for you, the Platinum for Final Fantasy XIII doesn't require much skill. However, you'll be looking at anywhere between 100 to 200 hours of game-playing.

As you move through the story, don't bother spending too much time farming for XP, as there'll be plenty of time for that after you've beaten the game and can warp back to Chapter 11. However, always be on the lookout for Treasure Chests to find weapons and accessories you'll need for the Treasure Hunter trophy. Particularly, the Elemental Rings which are rare (note: the Aqua Ring, which many people tend to miss, is found in Chapter 6 - keep an eye out for it!) If you complete the story but missed one of these Elemental Rings, there's still one last chance to acquire it, which is explained in a link below.

Note: We highly recommend you do not sell any of your weapons or accessories, even if it appears you have extras of the same item. The small amount of Gil you'll receive isn't worth the chance of making a mistake, and missing your chance for the Treasure Hunter trophy. Safe items to sell for Gil are: Incentive Chips, Credit Chips, Gold Dust, and Platinum Ingots.

Also, as you work through the story, make sure you're using Libra whenever possible to scan different enemies and learn their full attributes, in order to claim the Loremaster trophy. If you start doing this from early in the game, you should acquire the trophy several chapters before the final boss.

Once you've beaten the story, you'll have the opportunity to warp back to Chapter 11, where the remaining trophies are waiting to be collected. This includes farming to max out the levels of your characters and collecting Gil to purchase upgrades for weapons and accessories, working through the Hunts, and finding treasures using a Chocobo.

Chocobos are unlocked after completing Hunt #14. Try to clear this mission early, not only so you can gain the Gysahl Wreath trophy, but it will make life easier racing around the map quickly by riding these creatures.

The Gold Watch, which is rewarded after completing Hunt #64, slows down the battle time, improving your chances at getting 5-star rankings. This will come in handy when trying to obtain the L'Cie Paragon trophy, so collect it as soon as you're strong enough for the hunt - it will save time in having to replay previous Hunts to obtain a 5-star ranking.

The Growth Egg, awarded after completing Hunt #55, doubles the amount of CP gained in battle. However, you will be doing so much farming to collect Gil, that you'll have the Master's Seal trophy long before you've upgraded all your weapons and accessories. In which case, we don't recommend you go out of your way for this one.

As a strategy, we advise that once you've collected the Gold Watch, start working your way through each and every Hunt, making sure you gain a 5-star ranking for every one before moving onto the next. If you're still having trouble even with the Gold Watch, try using lower-ranked weapons to reduce the difficulty, Fortisol to improve haste, and Deceptisol to quickly stagger the enemy. Do every mission possible, except for Hunt #62! Let's save this one for later.

Next, start farming for Gil. You will need 6 Trapezohedrons (costing 2,000,000 gil) and 5 Dark Matters (costing 850,000 gil) in addition to several other cheaper catalysts, plus purchasing Sturdy Bones (36 will give you the x3 bonus) and Ultracompact Reactors for basic upgrading. If you head to the Northern part of the Archylte Steppe, between the Northern Highplain and Eastern Tors, you will find a narrow space which runs behind a small mountain, where Hunt #63 was found. There, waits 2 Adamantortoises and 3 Adamanchelids conveniently placed near a save station. Simply kill the 5 monsters, save your game, then quit and reload for the creatures to respawn.

Note: Upgrade Fang's Dragoon Lance, Shamanic Spear, Punisher, Pandoran Spear, or a Gae Bolg to a 100 maxed Kain's Lance, then dismantle the weapon, and you will receive 3 Trapezohedrons. This trick also works with Vanille's Tigerclaw, Healer's Staff, Belladonna Wand, or Mistilteinn at a 100 maxed Nirvana weapon. Dismantling a fully maxed Genji Glove will also give you 1 Trapezohedrons. However, there are only 3 Genji Gloves in the game, and we recommend you keep 2 for your battle with the Long Gui. Once you've gotten all the necessary upgrades, head to Bhakti in Oerba to collect your trophy.

Note: While you must upgrade every weapon by at least one tier, you only need 1 ultimate weapon for each of the six team members. Example: Just 1 Nirvana for Vanille, 1 Omega Weapon for Lightening, etc. Now that you have the Treasure Hunter trophy, you're less than an hour away from claiming the Platinum!

All that is left, if you've been following this strategy, is to complete Hunt #62, and battle a Long Gui. We have linked a Youtube video for each battle, displaying the weapons and accessories used in each, which we've found very helpful. It is now safe to sell the weapons and accessories you won't need for the final two battles, in order to make sure all items you need are fully upgraded. We recommend upgrading and keeping: 2 Genji Gloves, 9 Witch's Bracelets, a Wierding Glyph, 2 Sorcer's marks, a Ribbon (or Super Ribbon), a Royal Armlet, a Rainbow Anklet, an Imperial Armlet, a Platinum Bangle (or Wurtzite Bangle), a Clay Ring, and 2 Warrior's Wristbands. For weapons, simply use your ultimate weapons for Fang, Vanille and Lightening. Start with Hunt#62, and follow the guide in the linked Youtube video. Once that's completed, you'll have to save, then exit and reload the game. When you return, all the Adamantortoises will have turned into Long Guis. Again, follow the Youtube video's suggestion (we recommend the 2nd tactic), and you're done!

Congratulations! You've just earned which is probably the most grinding Platinum ever!

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Though third in the series, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a prequel to the original released back in 2000 on the PC. It's a cyber-punk sci-fi first-person shooter, a mix of Metal Gear Solid, Blade Runner, and William Gibson novels.

Adam Jenson is head of security for Sarif Industries in Detroit, a company which deals in the controversial human augmentation. His ex-girlfriend, Megan Reed, is about to announce a revolutionary discovery, when an attack by heavily armored soldiers burst in, injuring Adam. He's later reborn with augmentation, and travels to Shanghai and Montreal in search of the people behind the attack.

The game received very high scores, with an average of 92%, praised for its nonlinear storyline, interesting characters and subplots, wonderful atmosphere and great graphics.

For more information, check out our Deus Ex: Human Revolution Review.

Though playing on its hardest setting can get a bit hairy, the game overall is completely doable, and not much more difficult than, say, Uncharted or Assassin's Creed II. To make life easier, you may want to do this in at least two playthroughs. But if you're in a rush - and a real whiz - it's possible to get the Platinum in one, though requires a lot of saving and reloading.

There's basically three trophies which involve a full playthrough - Legend, which requires you to play on the hardest setting without changing it; Pacifist, which means getting through the game without killing anyone; and Foxiest Of The Hounds, which includes getting through the entire game without setting off any alarms. It is actually easier to earn all three of these in one playthrough. Why? Because, as long as you follow one of the walkthroughs in our Links page, you can sneak your way through the game, thereby not killing anyone. Without confrontation, there's no difference between Hard and Easy, except for the boss battles.

However, there are collectibles to find - 29 XP books - and several side-quests which count as missable trophies to earn along the way. These can be tricky if you're trying to earn them while getting the Pacifist trophy at the same time. It's possible, but will require multiple saves and reloads for either failing or accidentally killing someone. This is why it's recommended to earn the platinum in two playthroughs. Hold off on the side-quests until you're no longer worried about the Pacifist trophy, so you're free to kill or be spotted without worry.

For the Deus Ex Machina trophy, simply save your game in the room with 3 panels after defeating Zhao. Once you've chosen an ending and watched it, reload your save and watch the next one. After all four have been seen, the trophy should pop up.

As a final tip, make sure you save often and with multiple saves! This is particularly important should you accidentally trigger an alarm or kill someone, when working on the Foxiest Of The Hounds and Pacifist trophies.

Toy Story To Join Kingdom Hearts III

Square Enix has just released a trailer which reveals Pixar’s Toy Story joining Kingdom Hearts III.

Sora and friends will be able to venture to the world of Toy Story, where they can meet up with Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and other characters from the Toy Story series. This will be the first time a Pixar location is featured in a Kingdom Heartsgame.

“At long last, we are excited to open up the Kingdom Hearts universe to include the world of Disney Pixar’s Toy Story,” stated Tetsuya Nomura, director of the Kingdom Hearts series. “I’m sure fans have been anticipating the inclusion of this world for many years. The Narrative will be an original story exclusive to Kingdom Hearts III, and the gameplay will feel charactersitic of the Toy Story style and aesthetic.”

The provided trailer reveals not only cutscenes, but some gameplay as well.

In other news, a release window has also been announced. Kingdom Hearts III will be released sometime in 2018, for both the PlayStation 4and Xbox One.

Kingdom Hearts is an action-RPG series and a crossover with Disney Interactive Studios and Square Enix, centering around the character Sora who interacts with characters from both the Disney franchise, and Final Fantasy and The World Ends with You characters. The first Kingdom Hearts title was released in March 2002 on the PlayStation 2.

Thief

Thief is a stealth game, and is both the fourth title and a reboot of the Thief series which began in 1998 on the PC. The game takes place in "The City," a world that draws on Victorian, gothic, and steampunk themes. While focusing on stealing from the rich, players may fulfill their tasks through a number of means, such as by taking down enemies, or hiding.

Garrett is a master thief, who pairs up with Erin, his former apprentice, after accepting the same job from their contact. However, all is not what it seems when the job leads them to a mysterious ritual that eventually leads to a lock-down on the city.

Thief received mixed reviews, with an average score of 71%, praised for its graphics, level design and stealth gameplay, but criticized for its story and voice acting.

For an average player, the game is not particularly difficult, only time consuming. You'll most likely need two playthroughs, one on Master difficulty, as well as find a number of collectibles. One of those playthroughs will require a minimum of 15 hours to unlock a particularly trophy.

Overall, while nothing too frustrating, expect 35-40 hours of gameplay for this one.

NOTE: The Trophies on the PS4 have a separate list than those on the PS3.

While it's possible to jump into Master difficulty from the start, we found it easier to begin your playthrough on an easier setting, then do a second playthrough on Master.

During your first playthrough, your main goal will be accumulating over 15 hours of gameplay to unlock the More Heist Less Speed trophy. As a result, we recommend you take all the time you need to finish your game. This of course provides ample opportunity to find all the collectibles in each chapter, the secret areas, and unlocking any other miscellaneous trophies such as for pick-pocketing 100 guards. Make sure you've unlocked the More Heist Less Speed trophy before deciding to finish the game.

Once you've finished the playthrough, you'll enter a free-roam. Here, you can mop-up any other trophies you may have missed, which may include Finders Keepers for all the collectibles, spending 40,000 gold for Cache Dispenser, or any other miscellaneous ones.

Next, if you've taken our advice up till now, then you'll have the Master Custom difficulty playthrough to do. Here, you'll want to avoid using focus, as well as performing any knockouts or kills, in order to unlock Moral Victory and Clear Headed, as well as of course Hard Times for completing the game on Master, and Something To Prove for completing a custom difficulty of 700 points or more.

If all goes well, then you should have the Modesty Denied trophy left to unlock. This involves scoring at least 5 million points in a Challenge Map. This trophy isn't too hard. Simply check out some of the video presentations in our Links page to see how it's done, if you're having trouble.

Final Fantasy XV July Update Adds Magitek Exosuits

An upcoming update to Final Fantasy XV will be adding the Magitek Exosuit, a new outfit which allows the player-characters to become invincible for 30 minutes every twenty-four hours, as well as boost the fishing skills. The free update will be released on July 31.

The Magitek Exosuit was originally planned to be included with the Booster Pack, released on February 21 this year. Yet modification, due to their original simularity to the Power Rangers outfits, casued a delay.

“Due to the delay of its release,” stated Square Enix. “We have decided to distrubute the Magitek Exosuit to all players via the July game update, in place of the Booster Pack (Free Version).”

While the July Update, with its Magitek Exosuits, is not expected to add any Trophies to the list, we can assume they will come in handy when taking down some difficult Hunts or fulfilling some challenging Quests. Previous updates to Final Fantasy XV include the Episode Prompto DLC released on June 26, which added 7 Trophies to the list. The Multiplayer Expansion: Comrades DLC is still expected to be released in the near future, with a date not yet set.
