PlayStation Plus Free Games September 2023

Tired of summer holidays, hanging out with friends, and lying on the beach? Hoping to just chill indoors and play some games? Well, you’re in luck, because Sony has just announced their next PlayStation Plus free games September 2023 line-up which will be available for download on Tuesday, September 5.

First, for both the PS4 and PS5, there’s the Saints Row reboot. This is a complete remake of the original 2006 open-world GTA-like game, before the series started to include aliens and Satan. Taking place in the fictional city of Santo Ileso, players join their friends to take down rival gangs while wrecking havoc on the city in the process.

Next, for the PS4, there’s Generation Zero, the 2019 first-person shooter developed by Systemic Reaction. Blast away at giant robots which have taken over your hometown in 1989 Sweden. The game can be played in solo-mode, or co-op with up to three players.

Lastly, for the PS4, there’s the 2019 MMORPG Black Desert, developed by the South Korean company Pearl Abyss. Taking place in a high fantasy, players can roam the open world battling enemies in an active combat system, tame and breed mounts, as well as fish and cook. The game also includes large-scale PvP siege wars.

All three titles of the PlayStation Plus free games September 2023 have a platinum trophy to unlock.

Among them, Saints Row is certainly the quicker Platinum and requires roughly around 40 hours of gameplay. There is only one online trophy related to co-op play, and while the trophy itself is not difficult, co-op has been reported to be quite buggy and result in crashes. Also, Completionists should be aware that there are three DLC packs which are not included in the PlayStation Plus Free Games September 2023 line-up, which total an extra 14 trophies.

If you are playing Generation Zero solo, then expect a bit of a challenge and at least 80 hours of gameplay. If you are playing this co-op, the Platinum is relatively easy and can be completed in around 50 hours. Unfortunately, this is another game in which the co-op has been reportedly buggy and can result in crashes.

Lastly, Black Desert has an easy Platinum to obtain. However, expect to do a lot of grinding. Specifically, at least 150 hours worth of grinding.

Saints Row: The Third

Saints Row: The Third is a third-person open-world action title, similar in gameplay to the Grand Theft Auto series, and is the first in the franchise to have trophy support on the PlayStation 3. Similar to its two previous titles, players lead the Third Streets Saints in a turf war against rival gangs, fulfill missions, partake in races, use a variety of weapons, and explore the city. The game also includes an online co-op mode.

Two years following the events of Saints Row 2, the Third Street Saints have become a media empire, with their own products, commercials, and even establishing a fanbase. However, after a bank robbery gone bad, the event triggers a chain reaction which results in the Third Street Saints to lose their grip over the city. The player-character must lead the gang against their rivals in order to retake their power.

Saints Row: The Third received rather positive reviews, with an average score of 83%, praised for its game design and overall fun, though criticized by some for its flat humour and silliness.

While similar in gameplay to the Grand Theft Auto series, the platinum for Saints Row: The Third is far easier and less time consuming. There's only one, quick online trophy to worry about, a missable trophy which can be collected by using a manual save, and another missable which involves completing all missions before completing the game. Others are for simply playing through the story, finding collectibles, and a number of other miscellaneous trophies. Also, as there's no trophy related to playing on certain difficulty modes, you can easily lower the difficulty as much as you like.

Overall, this 3-star difficulty rating is more for the time required. Expect between 35-45 hours of gameplay for the Platinum.

To begin with, there's no trophy related to completing the game on any difficulty setting, so feel free to adjust it to an easier mode if you like.

There's only one online trophy, which you can knock out at the beginning. After completing the first mission and you've created your character, select to upload it, which will earn you the Jumped In trophy.

There are two missable trophies to watch out for. The first, is either Tower Defense or Kuh Boom, depending on which choice you make. Before starting 'The Belgian Problem' mission, make a manual save. Once you've completed it and made your choice, unlocking one trophy, simply reload the save and make the other choice. The final mission also offers a choice, but in this case, you'll be able to select the mission again from your phone after completing it.

Also, while not missable, the Hi-Jack It trophy, which involves the vehicle thefts, will be harder after completing the story, so you might want to get this out of the way, first.

Otherwise, simply enjoy the game and continue unlocking trophies during your progress. After completing the game, you can still roam about and mop-up anything you've missed. Check out the Saints Row The Third trophy guide links under our Links tab to see what you still need and their requirements.

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell is a third-person open-world action title and a standalone expansion that serves as an epilogue to Saints Row IV. The game takes place in an open world city with numerous quests, challenges, and collectibles located in various areas. Players advance the story by completing activities that fill Satan's Wrath meter.

During a birthday party for Kinzie Kensington on the Third Street Saint's spaceship, the guests unwittingly release Satan after playing with a Ouija board. Declaring that The Boss will marry his daughter Jezebel, Satan pulls The Boss down to hell. Kinzie and Johny Gat, the two Saints lieutenants, jump in after to rescue him.

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell received generally positive reviews with an average score of 71%, praised for its interesting characters and colorful world, but criticized for its short story length.

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell is not particularly difficult, nor very time consuming, hence the 2-star rating. The game requires one playthrough, then finding collectibles and completing challenges to mop-up the remaining trophies in a free-roam stage. There is one online trophy, which simply requires playing in co-op mode for three hours.

Expect roughly 20 hours for the Platinum.

NOTE: The Trophies on the PS4 have a separate list than those on the PS3.

You can begin things by simply playing through the main story. This will unlock the three story-related trophies, and takes less than five hours to complete.

Once the story is finished, you'll enter a free-roam where you can mop-up all the remaining trophies. Pay special attention to two missable ones: Top Gunner for shooting down a Spire missile with a blast while hovering, to which there are a limited number of Spires, and Terminal Hog for taking down an Extraction Facility on a motorcycle, to which there are only four Extraction Facilities in the game.

Also, the only online trophy to worry about is Double Trouble, for playing co-op for three hours. You needn't actually do anything, as long as you are in co-op. To save time, you can work on other trophies while your partner does whatever he or she needs to do. Check out the boosting forums in our Links page if you're having trouble finding someone online.
