Mercenary Kings
Mercenary Kings is a side-scrolling shoot'em up, where players jump, roll, crouch, and fire weapons in four directions while also using melee attacks. The game includes over 100 missions under a variety of locations, and the ability to craft and customize weapons and body armor. The game supports up to four players either online or with local split-screen.
An elite force of mercenaries, known as Mercenary Kings, have made things personal when their comrades have fallen by the evil forces of CLAW. The Mercenary Kings head to a secret Laboratory Base on an island seized by CLAW, in an attempt to stop their evil plans.
Mercenary Kings received mixed reviews with an average score of 69%, praised by some for its nostalgic shooting action, customization, soundtrack, and co-op play, though criticized by others for its controls and technical issues, and overly recycled content.
The game doesn't have any online trophies, per se. However, it was designed to be played co-op, which can be done either online or with two controllers. All the trophies can be obtained solo, though a few will be tough without a co-op partner. In addition, the game requires a lot of grinding for crafting materials, which means many hours of playing.
Expect around 50-60 hours of gameplay, though the level of difficulty depends on whether or not you have a good co-op partner or are performing everything solo.
NOTE 1: The trophies on the PS4 share the same list with those on the PS Vita.
NOTE 2: Even if you decide to play strictly solo, you will still need 2 controllers for a few trophies.
Start by simply playing all 112 missions from start to finish, which will net you a few trophies. If you want even more trophies during this playthrough, you can find the six kickstarter hostages for the Liberator trophy, complete every mission in the recruit rank without changing your gun for the Favourite trophy, and avoid using health kits or rations in all the major rank missions for the Major Pain trophy. However, since there will be plenty of grinding afterwards, it's not required to earn these trophies during your first playthrough.
After that, it's time to complete the speed run for every mission, for the Speed Runner trophy. This is where having a good co-op partner will come in handy. If you don't wish to do this solo, and have no one to invite to your home and hand a controller, then check out the boosting forums under our Links tab for some online players.
With the hardest part of the game complete, it's time for some grinding. We recommend unlocking the remaining miscellaneous trophies first, leaving the crafting related trophies last as they will take the longest.
