LittleBigPlanet 3

LittleBigPlanet 3 is a puzzle-platformer and the third title in the main LittleBigPlanet series, and the eighth in the overall collection. The game introduces three new playable characters, each with their own special abilities; Swoop is a bird who can fly, OddSock is a four-legged dog-like character who can run quickly and up walls, and Toggle can transform between a large and heavy, and small and light version of himself. The game also features an improved creation mode where players can design upload their own levels, while also try other player-created levels.

After being tricked by Newton who is out to destroy the creative paradise by unleashing three evil Titans, Sackboy must free three new friends and fight together to restore the LittleBigPlanet universe Bunkum to its peaceful state.

LittleBigPlanet 3 received positive reviews with an average score of 79%, praised for its new characters and features, level design, and for being an overall improvement in the series.

Obtaining the platinum for LittleBigPlanet 3 is nowhere near as difficult nor time consuming as the previous titles in the series. This is mainly due to a lack of trophies related to creating and publishing games that require a certain number of hearts or plays from other online players. In addition, there is no trophy for having to collect all the prize bubbles, either. Finally, even the boss battles in this game are arguable easier than those in the previous titles.

Expect 25-30 hours of gameplay for the platinum.

NOTE: The Trophies on the PS4 version have a separate list than those on the PS3.

ALSO NOTE: The online servers in the Japanese Region have been closed, which means players in Japan cannot unlock the 3 online trophies, and therefore the Platinum.

If you like, you can start things by jumping into the story and start playing through the Adventure mode. Unlike previous games in the series, LittleBigPlanet 3's chapters - or, Books - are each presented as one large platforming space, where you must explore and locate the doors to each level and mini-game. Each time you unlock the next Book, feel free to wander and find all the doors to the level, in order to unlock them on your map and enable yourself to select them from your Pod in the future. As you play through the Adventure mode to the end, you will unlock a few trophies naturally along the way.

With that finished, and if you're not tired of playing the Adventure levels, you can go back and Ace (not die) all 19 of the 20 main levels in the game for the Ace Adventure trophy.

After that, head into the Popit Academy, where there are two sets of seven levels that are designed to both challenge and teach aspects of creating levels. Completing and Acing the total 14 levels will unlock five trophies. Also, if you've completed the Adventure mode, you should have the Newton costume. Wear it during one of the Popit Puzzle levels, and you'll get the Back To School trophy.

Next, there are seven trophies you can easily unlock in Create mode. These include She's Gonna Blow, They Can Swim, Old School, We Have To Go Deeper, New School, Slippery Slope, and I Am Invincible trophies. Check out the trophy guides in our Links page to see their requirements. All of them can be unlocked in a matter of minutes.

There are also 3 online trophies, which are easy enough to unlock. Under My Profile, select Playlists and Create New Playlist to unlock the Curator trophy. Then head into Community and select an Adventure level, and play it for the Let's Go On An Adventure trophy. Finally, heart the level for the Adventurous trophy.

Finally, simply mop up any trophies you still might be missing, and enjoy your new Platinum.

PlayStation Plus Free Games: February 2017

At long last, Sony has unveiled the free-to-play games for PlayStation Plus members for this month, which will become available for download on Tuesday, February 7.

For the PlayStation 4, there’s LittleBigPlanet 3, the creative platformer where Sackboy must join forces with three new friends in order to stop Newton from destroying the creative world. Like previous games in the series, players can also create and upload their own levels, as well as play the millions of user-created levels online. Also, there’s Not a Hero, a third-person shooter where BunnyLord travels back in time in order to save the future from an alien invasion.

On the PlayStation 3, there’s Starwhal, the indie game by Breakfall where players control a Space Narwhal to battle against friends, NPCs, or compete in challenges. Starwhal is also a cross-plat with the PS4. And Anna: Extended Edition, a psychological horror puzzle game taking place in an abandoned sawmill where players must find clues and solve puzzles in order to learn of the character’s dark secrets.

And lastly, for the PlayStation Vita, there’s Ninja Senki DX, the indie game originally released on the PC in 2010, where Hayate is seeking revenge for the death of his lover at the hands of an evil ninja, in this 2D platformer. Ninja Senki DX is also a cross-plat on the PS4 and PS3. And finally, there’s TorqueL, the side-scrolling puzzle platformer where you must control a box in order to guide the man trapped inside. TorqueL is also a cross-plat with the PS4.

Among the free titles this month, only LittleBigPlanet 3 and Starwhal have Platinum trophies to unlock. It should also be noted that LittleBigPlanet 3 has three online trophies, and the online servers in the Japanese region have been closed, while other regions are still temporarily safe. The Platinum for Starwhal is a bit challenging, but still doable for average gamers and requiring roughly 20 hours of gameplay. Also, unlocking 100% of the trophies for Anna: Extended Edition is quite easy with a guide and 8 hours of gameplay, as is TorqueL with about 18 hours of gameplay.
