Super Stardust Ultra

Super Stardust Ultra is a twin-stick shoot ‘em up and a revamp of the original Super Stardust HD released on the PlayStation 3 in 2007. Players control a space fighter and can move in any direction over a spherical world, while firing at numerous enemies. Players can switch between upgradable weapons, as well as use such special abilities as a limited arsenal of bombs and boosts which grant invincibility for a short time. The PS4 Ultra version also includes a new Interactive Streaming mode, in which players can stream their game online while viewers can either assist or hinder the player. A downloadable content package called Invasion Zone was released for the PlayStation VR which puts the player in the cockpit.

Super Stardust Ultra received lukewarm reviews with an average score of 74%, praised for its added Interactive Streaming aspect, overall fun and challenge, though criticized for lacking much difference from the original PS3 version.

The game is quite short and anyone with experience with the original Stardust on the PS3 should be able to obtain the Platinum fairly quickly. However, there are a few trophies that are quite challenging – particularly the Shock And Awe trophy which requires destroying 10 nukes on Endless mode. Despite the short amount of time required for the Platinum, expect a lot of practice, patience, and skills for this one.

The Platinum can technically be unlocked in less than 10 hours, though this is heavily skill dependent. NOTE: You will need either a second controller or a PS Vita for at least one trophy.

ALSO NOTE: The Invasion Zone DLC, which includes 7 trophies, requires the PlayStation VR headset.

You will eventually need to play through Arcade mode on Normal difficulty in order to unlock the split-screen co-op for the Ogoun planet, which is required for the Brothers In Arms trophy. However, if you are new to the Super Stardust games, we highly recommend starting your Arcade mode on Easy difficulty to get a feel for the game and avoid a lot of frustration.

Once you’ve eventually completed Arcade mode on Normal difficulty, essentially you just need to mop-up all the other remaining trophies in any order you wish. Be sure to check out the Super Stardust Ultra trophy guide links under our Links tab to see what you need and their requirements.

The Brothers In Arms trophy requires you to maintain a Co-op weapon boost for three minutes in split-screen. This will require either a second controller, or the PlayStation Vita. The best strategy is to avoid shooting anything, and instead dodge the meteors while keeping both players close to each other to maintain the weapon boost. This is tricky but doable without a second player.

Finally, we recommend saving the Shock And Awe trophy for last, as this is by far the most difficult trophy where you will need to destroy 10 nukes while surviving on Endless mode.

Good luck!

Nex Machina Trophy Guide

Nex Machina Trophy Guide. Difficulty: ***  A top-down twin-stick shoot ’em up. The Platinum will require some serious skills.

Game Name Difficulty Trophies Developer Country Bronze Silver Gold Online DLC
Nex Machina *** 39 Housemarque Finland 23 11 4 0 0

Nex Machina

Nex Machina is a top-down twin-stick shoot ‘em up, by the same developers as Resogun and Super Stardust Ultra. Players traverse through rooms, shooting waves of enemies while saving humans along the way. Throughout the levels, players can find power-ups and weapon upgrades. The game takes place across six different worlds, features over 100 levels, and includes local cooperative multiplayer.

Nex Machina received positive reviews with an average score of 88%, praised for its graphics, soundtrack, and overall fun, though criticized by some for its upgrade system.

While many trophies are not too challenging, clearing the game on Veteran difficulty will be what stops many players from unlocking the Platinum. The game itself is not very long, but you can expect a lot of replaying and practice. If you are familiar with Housemarque’s other titles Resogun or Super Stardust Ultra, than you’ll have an idea of the difficulty level. Nex Machina is arguably the most challenging Platinum of the three.

Expect anywhere between 15-30 hours for the Platinum, heavily dependent on your skills.

Start things off by simply playing through the game, from start to finish. If you’re new to these type of shoot ‘em up games, you might want to start on Rookie mode, before advancing to the more difficult levels.

But if you have the skills and experience, we recommend playing through on Experience mode first. This will unlock both the Rookie and Experienced trophies upon completion, as well as give you a real feel for the difficulty level. Along the way, you will also unlock a few other trophies naturally.

Once that’s done, it’s time to go for the 1CC trophy, which requires playing through on Experienced mode without using any continues. You won’t need to defeat Nex, only play up until the Nex Machina. If you’re having trouble with this, check out some of the videos under our Links tab.

Due to its difficulty, we recommend saving your run on Veteran difficulty last. So after getting the 1CC trophy, it’s time to collect all those miscellaneous trophies. Be sure to check out the Nex Machina trophy guide links under our Links tab for more details on each specific trophy.

By this point, you’ll also want to complete 100 feats for the Fea(s)ts! Trophy. There are a total of 220 feats to choose from, so go after whichever ones you feel are easiest for.

Now, it’s come time for that run on Veteran difficulty. This is what blocks a lot of players from getting the Platinum, as completing the game on Veteran is no easy task. This is also why we recommend saving it for last, as by know you should hopefully be quite experienced with the game. If you’re having serious problems, be sure to check out the videos under our Links tab.

After completing your run on Veteran mode, you will have unlocked Master difficulty. If you’ve been following our roadmap, than completing one level on Master difficulty should be the last feat you need to do, in order to unlock that Platinum. But have faith – since you’ve already played the entire game on Veteran, than this shouldn’t be too hard in comparison.

Good luck!

Dead Nation Trophy Guide

Dead Nation Trophy Guide. Difficulty: **  A top-down shoot’em up in a post-apocalyptic world filled with flesh-eating zombies. The Platinum requires a minimum of two playthroughs, one with a friend either local or online.

Game Name Difficulty Trophies Developer Country Bronze Silver Gold Online DLC
Dead Nation ** 35 Housemarque Finland 21 8 5 1 6

Dead Nation

Dead Nation is a top-down shoot 'em up game, much in the style of Smash TV or Gauntlet. It is a PSN download - though supporting a platinum - and was one of the games released for free during Sony's "Welcome Back" package.

In a post-apocalyptic scenario, zombies have taken over the world due to a virus outbreak. The protagonists are (either) Jack McReady and/or Scarlett Blake, who leave their shelter in search of food and water. Along the way, they come across a radio signal and are contacted by a Doctor Morton who is developing a cure. Jack/Scarlett must search out the doctor, as well as the items he needs for the cure, while blasting a path through numerous zombies.

The game received fairly decent reviews, with an average score of 75%. Though simple as PSN downloads go, the game is a fun shooter with enough variety to keep the player interested throughout the game.

This is a high 2-star rating. You'll need to play through the game twice at the very least, though many will go for three rounds. You'll also need a friend - either online or with a second controller - as well as a walkthrough to find every piece of loot throughout the game. A chapter select makes mopping up a bit easy.

There are two ways in going about this platinum: long and easy, or quick and difficult. If you're going for quick and difficult, set the mode on Grim - which is necessary to unlock Morbid. If Grim proves too difficult when you're trying to acquire other trophies along the way, play on Normal first - but you'll still need to play through on Grim later.

The most troublesome trophy is King of Looter, which requires you to find ALL the loot in every mission. This includes all the cars which can be opened, and it's easy to miss one. Follow one of the walkthroughs under our Links tab to help with this one, and keep in mind that it's very easy to miss something. Often, if you receive 97% at the end of a mission, it means that you've probably missed a single car. And yes, you'll have to try the entire mission again. Also, be careful not to blow up any cars (this is why playing on Normal for this might make things easier, as you'll be shooting a lot on Grim, and accidentally hit a car).

You'll also need to play through the campaign with a friend. So either get online, or invite someone to your home. The game is too difficult to simply plug in an extra controller and play by yourself. You can try, of course. Though we recommend the more social approach.

Many of the upgrades you'll acquire during a single playthrough.

Alienation Trophy Guide

Alienation Trophy Guide. Difficulty: **   A top-down shoot ’em up, using twin-stick controls to blast away invading aliens. Three playthroughs are required, one on Hardcore mode. The majority of the trophies are more grinding than difficult.

Alienation ** 33 Housemarque Finland 16 12 4 0 9

Alienation

Alienation is a top-down shoot 'em up, similar in style to the 2010 Dead Nation by the same developers. Players select from three different characters, each with their own unique abilities, firing against swarms of aliens while upgrading weapons through collectibles. The game can be played ether solo or online co-op with up to four players.

Aliens have invaded Earth, and most of humanity has either died or been mutated. Soldiers from a military group known as UNX are the planet's only hope to stop humanity from becoming extinct.

Alienation received positive reviews with an average score of 79%, praised for its twin-stick shooting mechanics, online co-op play, and overall excitement and fun, though criticized for its lack in variety of weapons and for not possessing local co-op play.

Three full playthroughs are required, one of which on Hardcore mode. While Hardcore mode is obviously the most tricky aspect of the game, the remaining trophies are more time-consuming than difficult, as you'll need to do plenty of grinding.

Expect roughly 55-65 hours for the Platinum.

You'll need to do three full playthroughs, one with each of the three characters, with your last playthrough on Hardcore mode. We recommend saving the Bio-Specialist for the Hardcore run, as he has the ability to heal himself. But the choice is yours.

During your first playthrough, select whichever character you want. You'll be unlocking all the story-related trophies. We also recommend going for any other miscellaneous ones that don't involve a lot of grinding. Check out the Alienation trophy guide links under our Links tab for more details.

For your second playthrough, choose a different character, and aim for whatever miscellaneous trophies you're still missing.

Now, it's time for the Hardcore playthrough with your remaining character, which will unlock the I Fear Everything trophy, as well as whichever character-related trophy you're missing. On this mode, if you die, you lose your save file and will need to start all over at Level 1. If you prefer to play this co-op, check out the Boosting Forums under our Links tab.

With that out of the way, the rest is all grinding. Again, check out the Alienation trophy guide links under our Links tab to see what other miscellaneous trophies you may still be needing, and their requirements.
