In case you’ve been wondering whether Sony‘s virtual headset has been seeing any success or is going the way of the PlayStation Vita, a recent press release by Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that it seems to be the former. As of February 19, 2017, the PlayStation VR has reached over 915,000 units sold worldwide. This is quite an impressive number, and perhaps not surprising to anyone living in such regions where the PS VR has been sold-out since its launch in October last year.
“Since its October launch, PS VR continues to be well received by people around the world thanks to the high quality, revolutionary VR experience it offers,” stated Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “With more than 53.4 million PS4 units sold through globally we firmly believe PlayStation VR will take the lead position in the VR market. We are increasing production to meet demand and will continuously support content developers as they create innovative VR experiences that are only possible on PlayStation.”
In addition, Sony also announced that there are currently over 220 software titles and content in development for the PS VR, such as Ace Combat 7 and Tekken 7 by Bandai Namco, and Final Fantasy XV by Square Enix. Sony estimates there will be over 100 new software titles and experiences released by the end of 2017.
