Dead Space: Extraction

Dead Space: Extraction is a sci-fi horror, FPS-rail shooter, and a prequel to the original 2008 title, initially an exclusive for the Nintendo Wii, released in 2009. Two years later, Extraction was ported onto the PlayStation 3 as a free game included with the limited edition version of Dead Space 2, and is currently available for download on the PlayStation Network.

The story begins with a crew of miners extracting the Red Marker from Aegis VII, wen they begin experiencing hallucinations and start killing one another. Detective Nathan McNeill is investigating the situation, eventually leading him to the Ishimura, where he finds himself attacked by both psychotic colonists and Necromorphs.

Dead Space: Extraction met with generally positive reviews, with an average score of 77% for the PlayStation 3 version, praised for creating an original style to the rail-shooter genre while remaining true to the Dead Space franchise, and for its great story, but criticized for its relatively short gameplay.

Pretty standard as most games go, and Impossible Mode isn't nearly as frustrating as on the previous games in the series. You'll need at least two full playthroughs, one on Hard to unlock Impossible, and one on Impossible, then some mopping-up if necessary and a set of challenges afterwards. Also, during at least one playthrough, you'll need to be on the lookout for collectibles.

The game can be played with a regular DualShock 3, though we found it easier to aim using the Move controller.

Overall, expect anywhere between 20-35 hours, depending on your skills.

If you're in a rush for that Platinum, then load up the hardest available mode, which will be Hard, and follow one of the collectible guides under our Links tab from beginning to end. Along the way, there are several other trophies you can be earning, so stay alert to the Dead Space Extraction trophy guide links under our Links Tab as well, to see what you need to do along the way. Once this stage is finished, you should have a fair percentage of the trophies unlocked.

After completing Hard, you will have unlocked Expert and Impossible mode. Since the difficulty mode trophies are stackable, start up Impossible mode and just focus on getting through to the end. If possible, you may also wish to use this opportunity to mop-up anything you missed during your first playthrough.

If by now you're still missing some trophies, you can select chapters on Easy to mop-up.

Last are the 10 challenges which should now be unlocked. These aren't too difficult, and you'll have all your weapon upgrades with you, as well.

After that, it's Platinum time!

Dead Space 2 Trophy Guide

Dead Space 2 Trophy Guide. Difficulty: ***  A third-person over-the-shoulder shooter in both a sci-fi and horror environment, and a sequel to the 2008 Dead Space. Completing the game on Harcore mode is significantly more challenging than its predecessor.

Dead Space 2

Dead Space 2 is a third-person, sci-fi, survival horror shooter, and a sequel to the 2008 Dead Space. The game involves killing by dismembering alien-like creatures with various weapons onboard a space station. Dead Space 2 includes a multiplayer mode, though is unnecessary for collecting trophies.

Three years after Dead Space, Isaac Clarke awakens on a space station near Saturn, which no memory of the past three years. But the Necromorph outbreak has already begun, and Isaac must fight his way through the city in space, destroy the new Marker which has been recreated using the imprint on his mind.

Dead Space 2 received high praise, with an average score of 90% for its pleasantly terrifying setting, psychological horror, fantastic presentation, and detail to the characters.

If you thought getting through the original Dead Space on Impossible mode was a chore, well stand back for Dead Space 2. Completing this game on it's hardest difficulty mode, Hardcore, is utterly ridiculous. You're only allowed 3 saves throughout the game. Yes, that's right. If you die (and you will) expect to lose all those hours of gameplay when you respawn far back at one of the three save points.

Otherwise, much like its prequel, the other trophies are simple enough, either kill-related, story-related, or involve collectibles and upgrades. Expect at least 50 hours on this game, though it all depends on your skills in Hardcore mode. Possible to obtain the platinum in two playthroughs if you use a glitch, though due to difficulty, may require three.

The two modes you must beat for a trophy, are Zealot and Hardcore individually, because beating the game on Hardcore does NOT unlock the trophy for Zealot. So why start the game on Normal difficulty? Simply to prepare you for Zealot mode, and give you a chance to upgrade everything, which will carry over with a New Game+ (but not into Hardcore). The choice is yours, depending on how you feel about your skills and how much of a rush you are in for that Platinum.

If you choose to start on Zealot, there is a glitch at the end of Chapter 14 which allows for unlimited Power Nodes. See the Links tab for further details.

Regardless which mode you start on, you will need to follow a walkthrough in order to find all the collectibles. Also, focus on the kill-related trophies, some of which require certain kills with particular weapons. Others will come to you over time. Check out the Dead Space 2 trophy guide links under our Links tab for further details. If you don't manage to get all the kill-related trophies in one playthrough, then you'll need to start a New Game+, in which everything will carry over.

Your last trophy will probably be Hard To The Core, which involves completing the game on Hardcore mode. The difficulty is the same as Normal mode, but none of your upgrades will carry over, and you can only save the game three times. Be patient, and do your best not to die. We've included a hardcore difficulty guide under our Links tab.

Dead Space Trophy Guide

Dead Space Trophy Guide. Difficulty: ***  A third-person over-the-shoulder shooter in both a sci-fi and horror environment. Completing the game on Impossible mode can be quite challenging and even frustrating at times for average gamers.

Dead Space

Dead Space is a third-person, over-the-shoulder shooter, mixing the genres of sci-fi and horror.

You play Isaac Clarke, an engineer who arrives with a small team at the USG Ishimura starship after following up on a distress call. You soon learn that the apparently abandoned starship is infested with creatures which - for the most part - can only be destroyed by hacking off their limbs. It's blood and gore at its finest.

Dead Space received high praise with an average score of 88%, for its graphics and presentation, sound effects, gameplay, and scary atmosphere.

This is a low 3-star difficulty rating. Overall, the majority of these trophies are quite easy to collect; you'll probably acquire half of them during your first play through, and most of the others on your second and halfway through your third. In fact, if that's all it took, this game would receive only 1 star! However, completing this game on Impossible mode - even with the cheats - can be quite painful! Due to that one single trophy, Epic Tier 3 Engineer, this game's difficulty was boosted up to 3 stars.

Expect roughly 25-30 hours of gameplay for the Platinum, depending on skills.

If you're not interested in a challenge, set the game on Easy and play to the end; then, when you restart the game on the same Easy setting, you'll begin with all the equipment and upgrades you left off with, allowing you to eventually get the Maxed Out trophy. After playing through the game on this same setting 2.5 times, and if you've been collecting logs and performing the mini-challenges, such as Crackshot and Z-Baller, you should have nearly all the trophies except for: One Gun, and Epic Tier 3 Engineer.

Now for the hard part!

Why is Impossible mode so challenging? Because not only do you have to be a very good, quick shot, and not only will you die and restart over and over, but you will have to be very stingy with your ammo! You may, after hours of defeat, finally make it out of the stage alive - but if you come out with just a few shots left in your weapon, you may as well restart again or face being stuck at the next part of the game. It's not impossible - just very, very, very grueling. And the glory death scene each time you die start to get old, very fast.

With that in mind, don't bother going through the game just to collect the One Gun trophy. Why? Because you can ONLY beat the Impossible mode with just the Plasma Cutter. If you spend your money on anything else except for ammo, then you'll find yourself in deep doodie!

There are a few cheats under our Links tab which can help you on Impossible mode, particularly the infinite Oxygen and infinite Stasis codes. Using these cheats will NOT interfere with acquiring any trophies - so rest assured. Using stasis on enemies is a good way to take your time and not waste any shots (3 per limb). But we recommend, during those stages where a sudden hoard of enemies are attacking at once, that you don't waste time using stasis and just keep shooting, because you won't have time. Note: These codes will only work on the controller on setting #1. While you can play the game on any of the four controller settings, for whatever reason, these cheats will NOT work on settings 2-4.
