Tokyo Game Show 2019 Highlights

Just two days after a typhoon ripped through the area, game developers, distributors, gamers, and otaku alike filed into the Makuhari Messe Convention Center just outside of Tokyo, to attend the Tokyo Game Show 2019. While there were slightly fewer companies attending this year, TGS 2019 did see a new record of 2,417 booths (2,338 last year) which means plenty of games to try, and things to see.

Tokyo Game Show 2019

The largest promotional event was Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake, being shown-off at both the Sony PlayStation and Square Enix booth. The original Final Fantasy VII was released on the PlayStation One in 1997, and is arguable one of the most beloved titles in the series. Visitors at the Sony booth could have their picture taken while wielding Cloud Strife’s massive sword.

Tokyo Game Show 2019

The other big title this year was Capcom’s Monster Hunter World: Iceborne expansion, which is actually a game in itself than simply an expansion. While Sony had playable demos of the game, the Capcom booth displayed life-sized monsters. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne was released last week.

Tokyo Game Show 2019

This year, SEGA combined their booth with their subsidiary Atlas, promoting the upcoming Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Persona 5 Royal, both for the PS4, as well as the Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games for the Nintendo Switch. Other titles included the Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix for the Switch, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim for the PS4, as well as games in their SEGA Partners division including Granblue Fantasy: Versus, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Shenmue III, and Star Wars Jedi: The Fallen Order.

Tokyo Game Show 2019

Konami continues to make its comeback with such upcoming titles as Contra: Rogue Corps, and Super Bomberman R. Though most of their efforts are being put into the mobile gaming market, with such playable games as Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, Dance Dance Revolution, and Beat Mania II DX.

Tokyo Game Show 2019

Due to the lack of room, this year saw a lot less arcade-targeted VR titles, and more home oriented ones, including the dancing game Space Channel 5, and a meteor shooting game by students at Kobe Denshi College. Also, with over 4 million units sold, Sony is far from giving up on their PlayStation VR, with such playable games as Marvel’s Iron Man VR, Concrete Genie, and a new Hatsune Miku VR game.

Tokyo Game Show 2019

One of the cooler VR accessories I saw were the Cybershoes by a Kickstarter group. Resembling beach sandals, you strap them to your feet or shoes, sit in a chair, and simulate walking or running while playing your favorite VR title. Simple but effective.

Tokyo Game Show 2019

With all those extra booths this year, the Indie game area was packed tight with playable titles. Some that I played included Magical Girl’s Chronicle: Magusphere, which combined the cuteness of magical girls with the violence of blowing up tanks and enemies with guns and bazookas. And Liberated by Polish company Walkabout, where you literally play through the panels of a graphic novel. Both games will be out on the PS4 next year.

Tokyo Game Show 2019

Overall, there were no big surprises this year at the Tokyo Game Show 2019, but still had plenty to offer and gave us a peak at what’s to come.

Strider Trophy Guide PS4

Strider Trophy Guide. Difficulty: **  A side-scrolling action platformer and revamp of the original 1989 title. The Platinum is more challenging than time-consuming, with a playthrough on Hard mode, a speed-run, and collectibles to find.

Strider

Strider is a side-scrolling platforming hack and slash action game, and a reboot of the original 1989 title. The player-character Hiryu battles enemies by main plasma weapon, the Cypher. Players are free to explore each environment in search of other weapons, items, and upgrades.

Taking place in the fictional metropolis of Kazakh City, the Strider organization has sent out their deadliest assassin, Hiryu against the evil Grandmaster Meio.

Strider received positive reviews with an average score of 77%, praised for remaining faithful to the original while updating the visuals, and its overall fun, while criticized by some for repetitive gameplay.

The game requires at least two playthroughs, one on Normal and another on Hard mode difficulty. There is also a trophy required for making a speed-run in under four hours, as well as multiple collectibles to find. While the game is quite short, it can be tricky and even frustrating at times, particularly on Hard mode.

About 10-15 hours are required for the Platinum, depending on your skills and how many playthroughs are done.

If you wish to get the Platinum in only two playthroughs, then we recommend starting your first run on Hard mode, in order to unlock the Special Class-A trophy. The enemies have more health, and you take more damage. Hard mode may seem quite difficult at first, but gets easier once you start getting upgrades, and take your time.

During your first playthrough, you should also be looking for all the collectibles. This includes all 7 energy upgrades for the You've Got The Power trophy, all 11 fallen Striders for the Remember The Fallen trophy, all 6 health upgrades for the Health Nut trophy, all 4 Kunai upgrades for the Cuts Like A Knife trophy, and all 10 large canisters for the Collector Of Collecting trophy.

Also, during this playthrough, you'll want to go for the missable trophies, which include completing the Balrog without falling for the Didn't Miss A Beat trophy, defeating 20 enemies using a panther for the Eye Of The Tiger trophy, defeating 20 consecutive enemies without getting hit for the Untouchable trophy, defeating 10 enemies using reflect for the I'm Rubber You're Glue trophy, and maxing out the hit meter 25 times for the Meet Cypher's Edge trophy. Be sure to check out the Strider trophy guide links under our Links tab for more details.

If you can get all those missables, as well as find all the collectibles, then with the story-related trophies included, you should have nearly all the trophies by the time you finish your playthrough on Hard mode.

Finally, for your second playthrough, select Normal difficulty, which you'll still need to complete for the Class-A Ninja trophy, since the difficulty-related trophies don't stack. Here is where you'll need to complete the game in under 4 hours for the Speed Demon trophy. Avoid attacking enemies whenever you can, and move quicker by sliding, which can later be chained with catapult. Pausing the game, or even dying, does not count towards the timer, so feel free to pause in order to check the map, or kill yourself if you think you're taking too much time on a particular stage.

After your speed-run, and if you've gotten all the other trophies on your first playthrough, you should have the Platinum after completing your second playthrough.

Monster Hunter World Trophy Guide

Monster Hunter World Trophy Guide. Difficulty: ***  A third-person action adventure with RPG elements, where players take down giant beasts in different environments. The Platinum is not especially difficult, but extremely time consuming.

Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter World is a third-person action adventure with RPG elements, and part of the Monster Hunter series which began on the PlayStation 2 in 2004. Players control a Hunter, tasked with either capturing or slaying large monsters that roam in different, nearby environments. When successful, players use pieces of the monster to craft higher level weapons and armor. Players can also gather numerous resources located in each environment that can be used for crafting potions, ammunition, and other helpful items. The game allows for online multiplayer with up to four players.

Humans and other sentient races have sailed off from the Old World and began establishing working bases on a new, wild continent known as the New World. The player-character is a hunter, who is assisting the Research Commission to embark on expeditions and study the Elder Dragons that reside in the New World.

Monster Hunter World received highly positive reviews with an average score of 90%, praised for its graphics, beautiful environments, game mechanics, and overall fun gameplay.

The Platinum for Monster Hunter World is not particularly difficult - especially since you can request assistance from other online players. However, the road to the Platinum is a very long and time-consuming one. You'll need to capture or defeat the same monster several times in order to collect Crowns, which not only requires much time, but is heavily lucked based. But with enough determination, any average player should be able to obtain the Platinum.

Expect anywhere between 300-400 hours for the Platinum, heavily dependent on luck and a little skill.

You'll first want to start by going through the story, while upgrading your armor and weapons. There are a number of side quests you can complete as well which can offer useful rewards. If you get stuck trying to defeat a monster, remember to always try sending out an SOS, as more often than not, the other online players who arrive to help will be of higher rank. Continue through the story until you've defeated the final boss. From there on out, the level-cap will be lifted and you'll be free to venture out anywhere you wish. You'll unlock a number of trophies naturally during this process.

Also, each time you log in, make it a habit of sending out your Guild Card to everyone on the server. Chances are, at least one or two of those people will send you theirs as well. You'll need to collect over 50 guild cards for the Spreading The Word trophy.

Once that's done, it's basically time to unlock all other trophies, except for those related to collecting Crowns and a few other grinding trophies. This should include The Hunter's Life For Me trophy for completing 50 optional quests, The Franchise Hunter trophy for completing 50 investigations, the Nowhere To Go But Up trophy for completing 50 arena quests, obtaining five highly rare (Rarity 8) armor pieces for the Impregnable Defense trophy, having five highly rare weapons (Rarity 8) for the Power Is Everything trophy, as well as the three capture-related trophies, which include A Living Soffil, Snuggles For All, and Bristles For All trophies. For more details, be sure to check out the Monster Hunter World trophy guide links under our Links tab.

After all that, it's time to start grinding for those crowns. You'll need a miniature crown for almost every monster for the Miniature Crown Master trophy, a giant crown for almost every monster for the Giant Crown Master trophy, and research everything about almost every monster for the Monster Ph.D trophy, while also working towards reaching hunter rank 100 for the Established Hunter trophy. With all this grinding, you should eventually unlock the Bourgeois Hunter trophy for having 1,000,000 zenny at one time, if you haven't been spending it.

Happy Hunting!

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Trophy Guide

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Trophy Guide. Difficulty: **  A first-person survival horror and continuation of the Resident Evil main series. The Platinum is fairly average in both difficulty and time required.

Game Name Difficulty Trophies Developer Country Bronze Silver Gold Online DLC
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard ** 38 Capcom Japan 22 12 3 0 21

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, known simply as Biohazard 7 in Japanese, is a first-person survival horror, and the tenth main game in the Resident Evil series. Unlike the more action-oriented recent installments, the game returns to the survival horror roots of the original titles in the series, with an emphasis on exploration and puzzle solving. The game also supports the PlayStation VR headset.

Ethan Winters receives a message from his wife Mia, who has been missing for three years and presumed dead, which leads him to a plantation in Louisiana. However, he could not have imagined the unspeakable horrors awaiting him during his search for his missing wife.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard received positive reviews with an average score of 87%, praised for the game's return to the survival-horror genre, atmosphere, story and pacing, and for being a successful support of the PlayStation VR.

The game is reasonably average in terms of both difficulty and time required. At least two playthroughs are required; one for a 4-hour speedrun, and another on Madhouse difficulty, though most players will probably obtain the Platinum after three, or even four playthroughs. There is no chapter select, so trophies will need to be collected during at least one of these playthroughs.

Expect between 20-35 hours for the Platinum, depending on skills and how many playthroughs are performed.

While it's possible to obtain the Platinum in only two playthroughs, we recommend at least three to free yourself of stress. We also recommend playing the game at least once just for fun, without following a guide which will spoil aspects of the game.

Also, we recommend your first playthrough be on Normal mode rather than Easy, as completing Normal mode will unlock The Secrets of Defense item, which will come in handy during your Madhouse playthrough.

There is no chapter select, so you should do at least one run with the intention of unlocking all miscellaneous trophies. This includes finding all collectibles in the form of 4 video tapes, 18 antique coins, 32 files, and 20 Mr. Everywhere statuettes. There are a few other miscellaneous trophies as well, so be sure to check out the Resident Evil 7 Biohazard trophy guide links under our Links tab when you're ready for your first trophy hunting playthrough.

Finally, the game has two different endings, each with their own respective trophy. So remember to select one ending during your first playthrough, and the other during your second.

Once that's done, it's time for the speedrun, where you'll need to complete the game in under 4 hours. This is not too difficult, particularly if you've already completed the game at least once before, and/or are following one of the guides under our Links tab. Pausing the game will stop the timer, so feel free to do so if you need to. Completing the speedrun will not only unlock the Just Get Me Outta Here trophy, but also the Circular Saw weapon, which will also help during your Madhouse playthrough. Also, since you won't be fighting many enemies during this speedrun playthrough, try to complete the game using a maximum of 3 First Aid Meds for the Walk It Off trophy, and avoid opening the Item Box more than 3 times for the Resource Manager trophy.

Finally, it's time for the Madhouse difficulty playthrough. If you use the bonus items unlocked, such as the Essence of Defence and the Secrets of Defence in order to reduce damage taken, and the Circular Saw as a weapon, you shouldn't have too much trouble. Also, this will be your chance to collect the remaining Antique Coins for the Mad Pelicans trophy, and any other trophies you may have missed by this point. Again, check out the Resident Evil 7 Biohazard trophy guide links under our Links tab if there are any you still need.
